Our world is changing and, in many ways, becoming increasingly complex. Aspects of how our society works are not well understood and we are not taught everything. UNDERSTANDING is an educational company that develops practical courses on government finance & policy and facilitates discussions on pressing issues in society. At UNDERSTANDING, we are passionate about learning and believe that education is a life-long journey that should be accessible to everyone, regardless of their background or circumstances.
Our Purpose

At UNDERSTANDING, our mission is to provide engaging education that simplifies complex topics and provides unique learning experiences, helping you better understand the world around you. A better understanding leads to better informed decisions, which allows people to shape and create the world around them.
How We Got Started
While UNDERSTANDING was officially launched in late 2022, its roots can be traced back over a decade. In 2010, Our Founder, Christoph Schultz began developing and teaching courses on Microfinance practices and interest rates. He also taught introductory and technical workshops on solar energy as Program and Executive Director of Light Up The World (LUTW) for over 10 years. Having observed the gaps in understanding about government responsibilities and how it raises revenue and spends money, Christoph created UNDERSTANDING with the aim of bridging this disconnect in how Canadian government finance and policy works in practice.
